The word "magazine" was invented by Edward Cave in 1731.  The origin of the word came from the Arabic word makhazin, which meant storehouse. His goal was to publish a magazine that would attend to the interests of the public. The first American magazine made its debut in 1741.

Initially, only the wealthy could afford early prints. As the 1830s approached, cheaper magazines began to make their debut, focusing on entertainment. As a result of cheaper production costs, publishers were able produce more magazines and reach a wider audience.

As magazines grew more popular, they grew in variety as well. Magazines were used not only for entertainment but also women, literary, science, sports, etc. Till this day, magazines are still used and published around the world.
