AS Media Studies Foundation Portfolio

      Gender Representation  As I dig deeper into my research on representation in the media, I discovered that there is a huge issue of gender equality. This is evident in relation to both the content and as a profession in media.  Media intermittently will utilize women's bodies and adventure them to bring in views. Content about females is largely focused on the coverage on subjects such as entertainment and sexuality. Ladies are being generalized each day and there are no obvious measures being taken to change this. For instance, how the media depicts ladies as casualties to then present a male principle character as the legend. In my magazine, I will make an effort to shed a positive light on the image of women.

       On the subject of portrayal in media, I found how unique ethnic gatherings are generalized and underrepresented in it. Mass media has a gigantic reach in the public eye and are a vital channel through which individuals find out about one another, yet incalculable investigations exhibit that these media keep on recreating ethnic and racial generalizations, with regularly hurtful impacts. Which is the reason now then ever media creations are attempting to be more comprehensive for ethnic functions in shows, motion pictures, and cover photographs and areas in magazines.      Mass media  assumes a large role in molding collective identities and intergroup attitudes, by pigeonholing certain gatherings, twist the image that crowds see of various gatherings. Besides, media portrayals can not just advance public aggression toward other ethnic gatherings yet additionally lower ethnic minority people's confidence and compel them to attempt to find a place with such generalizations.  

      Media Representation I chose to explore the portrayal of various kinds of individuals and angles in media, what drove me to investigate this part of media is the way that the intended interest group determines representation. This is the reason I might want to see how the intended interest group of media creations has molded general portrayals.       Media portrayals are the manners by which the media depicts specific gatherings, networks, encounters, thoughts, or themes from a specific philosophical or worth viewpoint. Media messages have the ability to shape a group of people's information and comprehension of these significant points.       This is the reason it is so essential to have a wide assortment of portrayal appeared in media on the grounds that it is anything but difficult to make far reaching generalizations for specific individuals.   During this process, I also learned more about camera shots and their purpose. Camera Shots allow filmmakers to   emphasize specific emotions, ideas and  movement  for each scene. Over the Shoulder shot This shot  used  as a way  to  capture the perspective of the subject whose  shoulder  the camera  is  placed behind.  Medium Shot A medium shot is  used to emphasize both the actor and their surroundings by giving them an equal presence on screen. Long Shot These shots show  show the subject from a distance, emphasizing place and location.

In my research, I learned about the many different camera angles and their effects.  The  camera   angle  is  used  to specify the location where the  camera  is placed to  take  a shot. High Angle  The Camera  looks down on the subject from a  high angle .  High   angle  shots can make the subject seem vulnerable or powerless when applied  with  the correct mood, setting, and  effects . Low Angle The  camera angle  positioned  low  on the vertical axis, anywhere below the eye line, looking up. The main purpose  of the  low - angle shot  is that it makes the subject look strong and powerful. Eye Level Eye level  shots simulate standard human vision and thus present visual information through a familiar viewpoint.

      Genre Purpose, Target Audience, Distribution     The purpose of a magazine is one of the greatest determining factors that influences its contents. Content is the information that magazines provide to their audience.     -  Whether the purpose of the magazine is to entertain, persuade, or inform is what determines the information that will be presented to the argument.  ex: a magazine with the purpose of informing the audience on current news while provide information on what is going on in the world today.              The target audience of a magazine also influences its content. Audience is composed of  several factors including age, interests, etc. The purpose of my magazine will be to inform the public on current news and accomplishments within the black music industry today. Therefore, the content of my magazine will provide relevant information regarding this topic. In addition, m y target will include those who share an interest in music and African American culture   T

      The genre of my magazine is music. I chose to create a magazine in this genre due to my constantly growing interest in music. In addition, my culture has played a large role in the music industry today.  Three magazines I will focus on as models for my original magazine include :      - Rolling Stone     - Billboard     - Music Week These three magazines will serve as a model outline for the magazine I will be creating. I chose to use these due to the fact that they are well known music focused magazines which will provide great examples of the dos and donts pertaining to magazines in the music genre. I will access these magazines but digitally and physically in order to outline their set ups.

  Purpose, Target Audience, and Distribution     Magazines are constructed with the general purpose of  providing information for the targeted audience.  The purpose of my magazine will be to inform the public about current news and updates  within the African American community of the music industry.       Discovering your target audience consists of establishing   what kind of people are most likely to be interested in your service or product. I envision my target audience to include those who take interest in the music industry as well as those who take interest in African American Culture.     The Distribution process is the publication component of the magazine making process. In this case, my magazine will be digitally available to through my blog and website.

  My Magazine House Style                          In my research, I discovered the PME magazine. The style of this magazine uses very colorful and bold which attracts the potential audience of teenagers up to adults.  The color scheme and the unique style  are the most dominant conventions that helps catch the attention of the readers . The style and color of the magazine also helps to create a format which is unique and eye-catching.
